It was twelve years later when Spyro finally defeated her, interrupting the Dark Master's plans for freedom. After her defeat she reverted to the form she would have naturally become had she not been corrupted.

Her guilt of what she had done whilst under Malefor's control lead her to run away from the Temple despite Spyro's pleas for her not to, Spyro fainted whilst talking to her which she took as her chance to leave.

She was later captured by Skabb's scavengers and was brought in to fight Spyro who had also been caught. As the fake fight began the fleet was attacked by Gaul's forces who grabbed Cynder and took her to the Well of Souls where Gaul was awaiting the Night of Eternal Darkness and the resurrection of the Dark Master.

Again she was pitted against Spyro in a fight, she attempted to trick Gaul into letting his guard down, but she was easily swatted aside as she made her attack. Waking up as Spyro became Dark Spyro she managed to convince him to relent and return to normal. Spyro then trapped them in a crystal to protect them from the collapsing mountain.

It was three years later when they finally got out, only to find themselves tethered together. Cynder and Spyro made their way out of the Catacombs with the help of Hunter, eventually getting to Warfang after going through the Valley of Avalar. After a large battle they witnessed the resurrection of the Destroyer, to cut it off they went through the underground portion of the city.

On the other side Cynder came up with a plan to slow down the Destroyer so that they could catch it up and stop it. Unfortunately their attacks failed to destroy the Destroyer and it continued onwards.

The dragons continued on and made their way to Malefor's Lair in the Temple floating high above the land. As they talked to Malefor he made Cynder become Dark Cynder like Spyro had been before. As she attacked Spyro she was snapped out of it by his refusal to fight her.

They then defeated Malefor and saved the world. Cynder confessed her feelings right at the moment Spyro set about reforming the planet after the Destroyer had broken it into pieces.
