IGN have posted a couple of previews for the console and DS versions of The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning.

Quote: IGN
The long range ice attack, for instance, will blast out frozen shards that ricochet around the room. Earth attacks can unleash tornadoes, and some of the fire attacks can set enemies on fire. Should the foes engulfed in flame bump into their kin, they'll set the unlucky gent aflame as well.

They also have several new screenshots for both versions along with four new videos of the game. Also with screenshots are Amazon who have a few more DS screens.

Thanks go yet again to GnastyRatchet for finding the new console screens on IGN and for pointing out the videos.

About the flame part, that sounds like Timesplitters 3 except the way they do it, that can give you nightmares...

Thx for the find GnastyRatchetsmilie

The main enemy isn't Riptocs or Ryhnos or Gnorcs, they are baboons. - At least something new for baddies.

"We were told Spyro's eight levels should take about 10 hours to blast through. As the title's October release date approaches, we'll have more on whether this flying purple monkey smasher can really reinvent himself."

Oh no!

Oh no oh no!

This game is shorter than ETD!

OH NO!

It has eight levels, ETD had nine, it will take 10 hours, ETD took 12!

This really sucks, but it may be the best Spyro game ever despite that shortness factor!

Those videos are amazing. The graphics are spectacular, the combat incredible, the boss was bone-chilling(ironicly, he, or it, appears to be a skeleton in armour), it was just a feast for the eyes. I can't wait untill October. Oh, and I found two new screenshots on that developer interview page on Vooks.net(they replaced the old screenshots with new ones, two of which are the ones of which I speak of) that are not on IGN.

Wait....10 hours total or 10 hours per level??

Eight levels though, how short...But then, if they're the size of the worlds in AHT, that shouldn't be too bad, but I still miss the old portal/homeworld concept...

Personally, I'd rather have 10 hours of fun gameplay than 15-20 hours of so-so gameplay. If the worst thing that happens is that I want more - well, that's not horrible. I've played a hundred games that I couldn't wait to be done with.

But maybe that's just me...

The videos look sweet! Did you notice the unique names for each of the ape guys? That's awesome!

Also, here's a preview from Gamespot I just found:

I have compiled all the unique names from the 4 videos.

There are two Urivaryis - this may be significant. Being as the one in the snowball video is perched on the bat creature from the early screenshot batch.

Also in the snowball video if you look close Spyro aims the first snowball at the baboon on the bat creature we saw in the early screens. It is holding a giant weight by a chain.

And in the beach video Spyro uses the ledge grab ability from AHT to pull himself up.

Here are the names of the baboons compiled from all four gameplay videos:

Lozza Sailorpacer

Fora Scarghoul

Urivayi Snakefletcher

Tinadefa Wildkick

Armaludo Sailorpacer

Cileras Cursestrike

Defih Vinceweasel

Idaze Archertaker

Edosilat Warpwarrior

Tukekar Damcedash

Cutlover the Skeletal

Dreadwing

Sodozir Ghostthief

Rana Chaoswing

Edheb Coldworm

Urivayi Farwing

I got it to work finally! Even though they seemed to have changed everything, I am still super excited about this game. I think Spyro needed a change. "Best Spyro game to date!" That's a huge statement.

It says on the DS preview of ANB on IGN that the DS version is more of an action/platformer game than just an action game. So that might interest me in buying both Gamecube and DS versions of ANB. Also, has anyone seen or heard anything about the GBA version, I have not seen any screenshots or read any previews about it.

The video was awesome. The whole baboon idea is, IMO, weird, but I like how they have individual names. The graphics look great, too.

At least its not the hackneyed rhynocs. They've been using gnorcs and rhynocs for almost every game nowadays.

OMG...there is a new Spyro video on Krome's website...its awesome!!! It says that it is the trailer they showed at E3, but I saw the E3 trailer and this one is different...but still awesome! The E3 trailer was long (approx 2 minutes) and it was like a movie trailer, but you guys got to check this one out. Go to Kromestudios.com....its badass!
