Introducing the third entry to the Skylanders series: Skylanders: Swap Force. The main new feature that Swap Force brings to the table is the 16 brand new characters that have swappable features.
Each of the sixteen "Swap Force" toys has two parts - the legs and the upper body. The legs control the movement, the upper body decides the attacks. You can take them apart and then mix-and-match the two halves with any of the other Swap Force toys, the game will recognise what you've put together to give you up to 256 different combinations (once you have all 16 of the Swap Force characters).
In terms of new toys, as well as the 16 swappable "Swap Force" characters there are 16 brand new "core" figures, these are new regular Skylanders without the ability to swap parts. There will also be eight LightCore characters and 16 returning "Series 3" characters with new Wow Pows.
Also coming with the game is a brand new, completely redesigned Portal of Power that you will need to get, the old ones will no longer work with Swap Force. But never fear, all of the old characters, both the Orange and Green base varieties, will still be fully functional in Swap Force.
On the developer side of things unlike the last two games Toys for Bob will not be developing Swap Force, instead Vicarious Visions will be taking the mantle (they previously made the 3DS version of Spyro's Adventure, the Wii U version of Giants and all of the iOS games) for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U versions. The previous developer for the 3DS version, n-Space, will be resuming their development role on the 3DS version. And not forgetting the Wii, that's not being abandoned just yet and will be getting a version developed by Beenox.
The Starter Pack will come with two Swap Force characters (it'd not be much fun having only one) as well as a returning character and the brand new Portal of Power. No specific release date has been announced other than "this fall".
For further, more in-depth reading there are plenty of articles popping up all over the web following the press showing of the game, such as Wired, Engadget, Joystiq, Polygon, Giant Bomb, One of Swords, Metro.co.uk.

Omg!!!!!!!
Cooooooool!
I hope WII don't have another storyline >.>
Will the Giants also be playable in this brand new game?
Yes, all existing toys are compatible with Swap Force.
no offense to skylanders, but this looks like
crap.
Well that was quick.
ok, now that ive read a bit, it looks good.
lets hope VV makes a bigger game with more action pack expansions.
Looks like the legs of the swap characters have symbols showing what skill they specialize in. the ladder on the wash buckler character has a ladder, so it can be guessed that he is faster at climbing. The rocket may have to do with jumping. see the speculation is already fun....
with 24 new characters and 8 returning characters it already looks to be bigger than giants.
It's probablt too obvious that the repositioned characters are most likely the orphaned series one characters. Now we will see Boomer, Camo and the others.
I wonder how herioc challenges will affect the swap characters. will speed upgrades be tied to the legs only? will there be new Jump skill power-ups. will hats come with new upgrades?

Anyone as excited as I am? Whoooo! Totally getting this one the day it's released! Made my day.
Omg!! S3 stealth elf!!!
sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder why Toys For Bob are not developing this one. Maybe they need a break this year?
I don't really like that we will need a whole new portal because that means there won't be booster packs for this game.

I hope the new portal is wired like the giant's portal, it saved me ALOT of bateries =P
This looks intesting. But I hope there is a dragon character. The ones shown so far look weird and ugly!
Yeah the one's so far look really weird lol. Other than that it sounds pretty fun, can't wait!
Interesting... Vicarious Visions is taking the lead on this project. I wonder if TFB is tired of Skylanders at the moment and this is Activision's decision? I'm hoping that, seeing as the Wii version will apparently be different, it won't hold back the WiiU, 360, and PS3 versions like it clearly did with Spyro's Adventure and Giants. Those consoles have far more processing power, so there should be more content. <.<;
too much way too fast,I just hope the figures are distributed correctly and there are plenty to go around. This is quickly going the guitar-hero route.
Made a quick vlog talking about Skylanders Swap Force you can check it out here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaDilpGDC1I
Looks..... weird. I swear Activison is ruining Spyro.
I don't understand where people are coming from saying this game looks rushed or Activision is running the game into the ground. I understand the gimics, I started playing the series with Giants, since buying the game I've only purchased one Giant. Although each new game will have a new gimic, the title of the game is still SKYLANDERS, if I always have my older Skylanders, and there will always be new core Skylanders, then it's fine with me.
blue bases!!!! looks pretty nice.
Wow, people are sure judging this game very quickly, it was JUST announced, I honesty really like it, better than just adding bigger Skylanders that break stuff.. *Shot*
So the old Portals are no longer going to be used, huh? I guess that makes sense, because the old portal of power wouldn't read the different combination of the Swap Force Skylanders. I'm looking forwarded to getting this game.
Yes! I knew there was going to be blue based figures in game 3!
It's not on wii....
That means my brother won't be buying it.

for all we know, Spyro may not even get a S3 counterpart.

The new Portal looks epic, I want that portal NOW!!! And any new dragon/gryphon characters. Hmm I wonder....? Will we finally get to see who that shadow person was in the final cinamatic of Giants?
Its Kaos' mom
sorry if that didnt work and i just ruined it for you.
Activision has gone too far with this...
My first reaction is: Wow, the interchangable parts will open up some interesting mechanics of gameplay. The look of the characters though are starting to look "cheap"...hard to quantify what I'm saying here, it doesn't seem to have that "spit and shine" of S1 and S2. I guess we'll have to see.
Also, I have a concern from a development perspective. I'm VERY nervous about having two development houses building the games. I'm ALSO concerned that TFB is not involved here. I did see a youtube video indicating that they need two development teams to leapfrog each other in order to build quality and meaningful innovation, as one year per game will probably not be enough. This "could" be what we're seeing here.
My spidey senses tell me this might be a stinker, but I'm reserving judgement until I see more. I'm a big fan--as my collection of my son's toys shows. I will be boycotting S3 returning players and lightcores. Original innovation gets my wallet.

Awesome! I really want it
Most of this is speculation
i love the look of it, just dont know if my thirteen year old wallet can deal with all of this. What i got from this is 16 new swap characters, all of those from ssa being reposed (as a guess) , skylanders giants 4 of the giants (as a guess) 4 of the normal sized giants figures (as a guess) and eight lightcores (the other 4 giants) and 4 swap landers(who will have like a glowing base and top or something) that is my guesswork

Although I was dreading the release of a third game, I have to admit this:
I like the figure designs.
*sigh* Looks like my wallet is going to suffer even more.

Will the third console game include playable characters the abilities to jump without bounce pads?

Yes everyone will be able to jump

Out of the registered websites nano force sounds like a handheld and Swap Force seems as though it has a real good graphics engine with some nice looking enemies but what happened to cali she wasnt in the trailer gameplay just Flynn.
We have to buy another portal? Okay...just hope this one works out to last longer than the ones for the first two games because my portal died after only 3 uses.
YES i can't wait all im gonna do for the first day is jump everywhere LOL finally jumping on the platform versions WOOHOO!!
Will there b ne new giant characters?
Sweet. For those who complain it's too expensive, Activision could've made the previous games' characters (especially three-packs) more expensive, and they didn't (seriously, at [censored so as not to promote brands] you can buy a three pack for like $17, that's a pretty good deal). Plus there are always lots of sales it seems.

Where are you shopping? I've seen S1 characters going UP IN PRICE to match S2 prices.
S1 3 packs were 19.99, S2 3 packs are now 24.99, S1 skylanders were 7.99 on average, S2 skylanders are 9.99 on average, but S2 lightcores being 11.99. Personally, the whole idea of giants was simply a marketing ploy to see HOW MUCH MORE people will pay for them based on size. Trust me, it's no coincidence that the S3 skylanders are bigger. Expect the swappables to cost about $14, S3 reposed about $12, and lightcores $14.
They are going to keep raising costs until we stop buying them, at which point they will bring down price.

I think that they will just keep raising prices until no one has the game, and they ditch skylanders.
