As per request, in the list of people who are currently online those in your Private Message Friend List are coloured green.

You can now also see whether somebody is online by looking underneath their avatar in a topic. Switching 'Private Online Status' to on in Profile Options will disable this for you if you'd prefer people not to be able to see that for you.

That's right, no longer will the game rating stars be sort of a bit of a star but not quite. Now rounded to the nearest half you also no longer need to click on the stars and then on the stars that appear to rate, you can now just click on the stars. Hooray!

I've also posted the first level of my walkthrough to Dawn of the Dragon on consoles.

And another level on the DS version of The Eternal Night as if anybody really cares.

And if that wasn't enough I've just finished off adding all of the characters from Spyro 2: Season of Flame.

It's that time of the year again; December. Which means that Christmas is sort of near and it's decoration time.

As tradition dictates I've put the traditional decorations up on the site; the traditional snowflake gem wallpaper, traditional Spyros wearing santa hats and some kinda snow looking stuff on the traditional logo along with some traditionally crummy looking stock Photoshop snowflake shapes. I even went and made a hat for my Spore Spyro (unfortunately ingame it's yellow smilie).

Welcome to a new section of darkSpyro where I'll be posting all the minor changes and updates I make to the forums.

First up we have a new feature; subforums. I've moved the Video Gaming forum into a subforum and created a new RP subforum due to the large number of those topics swarming the boards recently.

If I've missed any RP or forum game topics please post a link to it so I can move it to the new subforum. Also, please post any suggestions to help improve the way subforums are implemented or any problems that you find, thanks.

Still waiting to get the newly released The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon? Well Spyro's Lair has a new mini-game added today that could help fill in the time. It's been seen in the scorecard for quite a while and "Path of Fire" has finally materialised in the form of a memory game in which you have to remember a path for Spyro to follow, each progressively longer than the last.

With the release of Dawn of the Dragon you can expect a few more games to appear on Spyro's Lair "very soon".

In other news there are a few more character pictures on the official Dawn of the Dragon website and Prima have added a PDF preview of their Official Guide which details one of the levels quite extensively (and contains spoilers, obviously).

Thanks go to dark_fury912 for the heads up on the new Spyro's Lair game and spyro's #1fan on the official forums for spotting the new pictures.

With the release of the mobile version of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon recently I've completed work on a walkthrough for the whole thing. Clocking in at a maleficent 31KB you can either read the text file or the less monospaced HTML version of the walkthrough.

A warning for those of you not wanting to have Dawn of the Dragon spoiled is to not read through the walkthrough for a game you don't have. Saying that, I don't think there are any spoilers in there anyway but I could be wrong.

If you can speak French or want to see more footage of the console version of the game then JeuxVideo have a video interview with Jean-Marie Nazaret of Etranges Libellules, the interview is translated here in the forum if you can't be bothered to do it yourself.

Thanks go to Spyro VS Evil and dragonwar2 for posting the interview and translation.

The achievements for the Xbox 360 version of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon have been released. Check them out on Xbox360Achievements (possible spoilers!).

The release date for the game has finally been announced on the Sierra forums; the 21st of October in North America.

And today also marks Spyro's 10th Anniversary, so, you know, yay for that too.

And in site related news, I've recently made some maps for the Sgt. Byrd speedways in Spyro: A Hero's Tail which should help locate where all those turrets are hiding and perhaps improve your time through the course.

Thanks go to Neal of SpyroWorld for spotting the mobile screens.

The folks at Spyro's Lair have added their first new mini-game since release. Wings of Fury sees you play as either Spyro or Cynder (there are apparently some differences between them), in the new Dawn of the Dragon style, flying through up to ten levels of near constant air combat.

You can find the game by clicking on Activities once you're in the Lair.

[User Posted Image]

Unfortunately the game doesn't appear to add your score to your Spyro's Lair scoreboard but you can still mark your achievement on a highscore table with a 3 letter name at the end. Edit July 1st: It does record your score to Spyro's Lair now.

It's another year that has rolled on by and darkSpyro celebrates its fourth birthday. Since this time last year we've had the addition of a guide for the latest game, The Eternal Night, a new guide of the old game Enter the Dragonfly and the rapid expansion of the Guidebook which now contains over 700 characters.

As for statistics, well the site has received over 30 million hits, the forum has broken the 1000 registered members mark and there are now currently around 175,000 posts. The forum has gained several new features including the much requested Private Message service.

What's in the future? I made a comment regarding a new Guidebook last year, that's progressed since then and is still on its way, as too are reworkings of the Season of Ice and Attack of the Rhynoc sections. And of course a guide for the new game Dawn of the Dragon once it becomes available towards the end of the year.

It appears that much like the previous years, the banner on Sierra's forum is indeed the new boxart. You can see them all (except PS3 for some reason) over on Amazon.com.

Spyro's Lair has updated its avatars to match the new style of The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. This time they've made it possible to create Spyro and Cynder exactly so expect to see a few of them bouncing around.

More information has been posted on the Velvet Octopus page for the upcoming film, due for release Christmas 2009.

[User Posted Image]

The director of the film will be Mark Dippe (Garfield’s Fun Fest, The Reef, Garfield Gets Real) and it is being written by Daniel and Steven Altiere (Dr. Dolittle, Scooby Doo 3, Garfield’s Fun Fest).

There is a synopsis of the story which will be very familiar to you if you've played The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, it's essentially the same but with some minor changes. This is intended to be the first in a franchise of Spyro films.

After ticking down for the past few days the countdown on Spyro's Lair has reached zero. And with impeccable timing nothing happened. UPDATE: Several hours later and here it is: the minisite for The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon.

Developed by newcomers to the series, Etranges Libellules and Tantalus Interactive (DS version), the game appears to be taking a much more realistic look after the previous two Legend of Spyro games. The game is due to appear on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS this October.

The minisite for Dawn of the Dragon is up and running with the official Press Release, five screenshots and five pieces of Concept Art. You can also see those images in our gallery.

The first 18 images from The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon have appeared on IGN. As they're from the Xbox 360 version, they're quite big. They also confirm all the information from ToTheGame, right down to the typo in Spyro's name.

See also Kotaku for DS screens.

Thanks go to Spyro Technics for spotting them on IGN.

Recently SpyroWorld spotted that a website called tothegame had posted pages for a game called The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. tothegame at the same time had pages for a Crash Bandicoot game entitled Crash Bandicoot: Mind over Mutant, this name has turned out to be accurate... so could the Spyro name (and info) be correct too?

They had the same information from the Velvet Octopus PowerPoint plus a bit extra...

Quote: tothegame
In the culmination of the trilogy, players find Sypro teaming up with an unlikely ally - Cynder, his former enemy, to face his most challenging mission to date. As the Dark Master's (voiced by Mark Hamill) evil envelopes the world like a plague, Spyro must fulfill his destiny and unlock the true power of the purple dragon within him to stop the Dark Master in his tracks.

  • Two elements never before seen in the Spyro universe: fly at any time and drop-in/drop-out co-op, with Cynder. Both characters can complete the game separately as well.
  • Cynder being introduced as a strong, female lead alongside Spyro, girl gamers will have something to get excited about!
  • Fun combat gameplay with new elemental attack moves/combos, enemies, environments, etc.
  • This is the third and final installment of an epic trilogy, giving players a more mature character design and story line since the previous title; The Eternal Night.
  • Spyro makes his debut on the PS3! This new venture for the purple dragon onto the next gen console will attract new players who may have not been able to experience the Spyro series previously.
  • All-star voice cast including Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman, Blair Underwood, Christina Ricci, Wayne Brady and Mark Hamill

The information posted for both games was quickly removed but Mind over Mutant has today appeared at Crash Village with the same story.

In case you were still a little sceptical, today Nintendo announced a list of games due out this year, a list including "Spyro (tentative title) (Vivendi Games) October 2008" for both Wii and DS. For those Crash Bandicoot fans out there they also list a Crash game for them both as well.

A mysterious countdown has appeared on the splash page to Spyro's Lair. It appears to be counting down to the 28th of April (12 pm GMT). As the image accompanying the countdown is the after credits image from The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night, could this be a countdown until they officially announce the third part of the Legend of Spyro trilogy?

A little late in the game perhaps but I've now completed work on my newest guide, one for Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly.

[User Posted Image]

The game wasn't well received or highly rated by many, but it had been the only game that I hadn't written a complete walkthrough for for so long that it just had to be done. And it's about time too as I've been meaning to do it since just about the very first day of this website.

I've now posted solutions to all of the Light Crystal Puzzles in the Nintendo DS version of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night.

Disappointingly it turned out that all 80 puzzles in the new game are in actual fact exact duplicates of the puzzles in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning just with different names.
3:00 PM - Tuesday the 12th of February, 2008 - by dark52
Finished The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night and wondering when you're going to find out what happens next? Well wonder no longer. Velvet Octopus, involved with the upcoming Legend of Spyro film, have posted the first information about the third entry to the trilogy.

Quote:
  • First appearance on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360
  • Epic culmination of "Legend of Spyro" storyline Spyro finally faces the Dark Master
  • Fly at any time - first free flight in a Spyro game
  • Co-op play with Cynder (female dragon)
  • Global release Oct/Nov 2008

Other platforms aren't mentioned but I wouldn't cross them out just yet.

[User Posted Image]

And even though this will wrap up the Legend of Spyro story they also go on to mention that annual releases of Spyro on all major gaming platforms in 2009 and beyond are planned.

UPDATE: Called "Legend of Spyro: Darkest Hour"? EBgames, they list PS3, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360 and DS versions of the game.

Thanks go to Vitani333 on SpyroForum and Neal from SpyroWorld.
