Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer
Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer, or as it's also known, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, was the second Spyro game to appear. And as with Spyro the Dragon, this was a PlayStation exclusive.
This second game in the original trilogy, takes Spyro from his home in the Dragon Realms, to a distant unknown land of Avalar. Here Spyro meets plenty of new friends as well as some enemies too. He also learns some brand new moves to boot.

The Story
Here's the official word on the story from the SpyrotheDragon.com website:
Far away, the bitter and twisted Ripto, a dinosaur-riding troublemaker, along with his henchmen Crush and Gulp, had taken control of the beautiful land of Avalar. Ripto was a classic example of the "Napoleon Complex" - a little guy who felt he must take on the world - frustrated, short tempered and spiteful. Having stolen a magic sceptre, he was using his new-found power to pick on everyone and generally spoil the peace and quiet of Avalar. He was making life miserable with his magical spells...

Purple | 5 |
Yellow | 10 |
Pink | 25 |
They also now come in different containers. Flamable Baskets, Chargeable Vases, Exploding Vases, Unbreakable Chests, Headbash Chests and just lying about on the floor. You will no longer get gems from killing things as they will only release Spirit Particles now.
Gameplay Basics
Here are a few things that you should know before playing this game:
- You are in a different world than in Spyro the Dragon, and as such, all the creatures you will meet are new
- When you kill something, no longer will it spew a gem, it will release a spirit particle. This life force can activate a powerup when you reach a certain number of kills in that level
- No more Dragon freeing, here you collect Talismans and Orbs
- All butterflies will now be eaten by Sparx, whether or not he's hungry
- There is now a special blue butterfly which both fully heals Sparx and gives Spyro an extra life
- You will be set many challenges in the game to earn the Orbs
- Due to this, the citizens of Avalar are a lot more talkative then anyone in the Dragon Realms
Now it's time to get started with the game:
Summer Forest
Comments
When you do the puzzle under the water and in the spare room, ya then gotta feed the idol some fish right? Well! If you get all ten in the mouth, you VERY quickly run into the water, diving under it. If you charge into it, it's even better, 'cause it helps, but!
Once you've done that, you'll know if the trick worked, 'cause you'll be swimming in the air. It is amazing! I completed the whole level, without some of the gems of course, but hey, it's a great trick to learn!
The way I complete that level is by killing all the enemies, and getting the gems under the water first. Including the pot ontop of the platform before I go into the Swimming in Air mode. Then I can collect gems, swim around, and be real lazy. It's really fun.
Spyro Swimming Glitch #4:
This swimming glitch is in Winter Tundra. Go to the part where you are in front of Ripto's Arena. Go to the right until you are right on the edge. Then double jump and glide to the flat platform on the mountain. Double jump again, and you'll end up on top of the waterfall. Now do a blind glide out onto midair and glide to the right. You will eventually see the waterfall where you got the orb on top of the waterfall. Go under it, and headbash. If you do it right, you should be swimming in the air. (This is one way to preform the glitch.) If you have any questions on how to preform the glitch, just post a comment to "SpyroGamer" on this website. I will contact you ASAP!!!! And if you still have trouble, type in your search engine "Winter Tundra Swimming Glitch" and watch how to preform the glitch. Happy Swimming!!!!
This swimming glitch is in Aquaria Towers in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (or Spyro 2: Gateway To Glimmer.) This is one of the ways in order to achieve the swimming glitch. Go to the part where you go through the hole in the ceiling, and you end up in the area where there's Hunter's Manta Ray Challenges, and the Sea Horse's challenge. Go to the left, and charge at the invisible wall while holding the L1,L2,R1, and R2 buttons. (Make sure to hold these buttons the hole time you are charging, or the glitch won't work.) After a while, you should pass a white line, which is the bountary line for the area. Continue to charge until you go off the edge, and WHALAH!!!! You're swimming in the air. (If you go back into the level, you have to do the glitch again in order to get out of the level.) You can now go anywhere outside of the level. But a moment of caution. When you are outside of the level, and you see the one little lake of water floating under the level, DON'T DIVE UNDER!!!! You will instantly die, and be sent back into the level, and have to do the glitch again. (If you have any trouble preforming the glitch, type in your search box something along the lines of, "Aquaria Towers Swimming Glitches" and watch any one of the videos that comes up.) Happy swimming!!!!
(WORD OF CAUTION: You need to know how to swim in order to do this glitch.)
This glitch is in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (USA)/Spyro 2: Gateway To Glimmer. First, go to Summer Forest. Once you get there, go to the little lake to your left. (This little lake should be the lake where you swim through the tunnel, then jump on the steps, and get the secret orb.) Once there, make Spyro face the land and press the Square button (the swimming button) against it while pushing the analog stick/D-Pad slightly up. It takes a while, but you should eventually swim in the air. Make sure to watch the tide! The glitch won't work if the water's not high enough. (If this doesn't work, type in your search engine something along the lines of, "Summer Forest Swimming Glitch". This way you should be able to watch how its done.) And if you haven't finished this level, and Moneybags is still there offering to lower the wall to get into Aquaria Towers, say no, do the glitch, and you should be able to swim over the wall, while at the same time, not pay Moneybags. Happy swimming!!!!
Hint: Don't swim too far away from Summer Forest. If you do, you will die. But to make sure you stay in swimming glitch mode before you die, have Zoe zap you. (He's near Hunter where he offers to tell you whether or not you want to change your camera mode to Active, or Passive, mode.)
