Story

The story of Skylanders Imaginators takes place long ago when the Ancients used a mysterious power known as "Mind Magic" to create everything in Skylands. With it, they conjured into existence anything that they could imagine! However, they soon learned that in the wrong hands, it could be very dangerous, and so they sealed it away so that it could never be misused. After discovering this ancient secret, Kaos has unleashed the power of "Mind Magic" into Skylands once again - and he is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders, the likes of which have never been seen! Now it's up to Portal Masters to create Skylanders Imaginators from their own imagination and stop Kaos and his evil Doomlanders before it is too late. And to help train them, Eon is sending the greatest mystic warriors of all time - the Senseis!

Characters

For new playable characters there are 20 brand new Skylander Senseis as well as 11 former villains. Along with their element each Sensei will also have a Battle Class from a list of ten: Smasher, Knight, Ninja, Bazooker, Quickshot, Sorcerer, Brawler, Sentinel, Swashbuckler, and Bowslinger.

The first set of characters to be revealed included King Pen, Golden Queen, and Tri-Tip. Here is a table containing all of the new Skylanders, click the + to see all the known variants:

Senseis

"Sensei" is the collective name for the new set of Skylanders (the villains also function as Senseis), their Battle Class determines the types of attacks and weapons they use as well as which abilities they unlock for your Imaginators. They all have a new type of super attack called Sky-Chi that slowly fills up as you defeat enemies until it reaches a point where you can unleash it on your unsuspecting foes (quite similar to the ability Trap Masters had in the 3DS version of Trap Team).

Owning a Sensei of a particular battle class will unlock a Secret Technique for your Imaginators of the same class. As well as that they will each unlock an item and a weapon for use in customisation. Senseis will also be able to access areas known as "Sensei Elemental Realms".

Creation Crystal

Included in the Starter Pack is a Fire Creation Crystal, this allows you to create and store your very own custom Fire element Skylander. To create a Skylander of a different element you'll need to purchase a Creation Crystal of that element.

Be aware that once you select a Battle Class you can not change it on that Creation Crystal ever again. So choose carefully!

Starter Pack

In the Starter Pack you get the Water Sensei Master King Pen, the Earth Villain Golden Queen, and a Fire Creation Crystal. The portal included is identical to that of the Swap Force portal (some regions instead have a modified SuperChargers Portal without a trap slot).

There is also once again a Dark Edition of the Starter Pack, it contains three Dark variant Skylanders (King Pen, Golden Queen, and Wolfgang) and three standard Creation Crystals (Fire, Life, and Dark). The pack also comes with a Gold Imaginite Mystery Chest that unlocks some gear for your Imaginators.

And there is a "Crash Edition" that is only available on PlayStation 3 and 4, it has the same contents as the regular Starter Pack plus the Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex toys. The characters will be available in a separately sold Adventure Pack at a later date.

Platforms

The game is only appearing on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Wii U. That means no Wii, 3DS, or Tablet versions this year.

Do we know what the max level for this game will be?

I think the modded superchargers portal might just be a placeholder in devkits, so they haven't yet produced the new portals but they will. Now when someone is unboxing this early they just had to put something there, so they put just some leftover prototypes. I think there will be a new portal, because the racing theme doesn't fit as it really wasn't a portal becasue the vehicles were the portals.

Wow, that is quite some dedication to hate smilie

@PwnageFTW: I haven't watched him before, just saw it in my recommended videos and decided to watch, because I had nothing else to do at the time. (And since it said "unboxing", I had a false hope it would include packaging for Crash. I knew it wouldn't happen, but watched anyway.)

The Portal came as a shock. I instantly paused and went back just to confirm what my eyes had seen and took a screenshot of it.

Before clicking the video, I didn't notice the portal actually being shown in the thumbnail, but seeing it afterwards, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

My friend set his Rift Portal on fire, then rolled over it with a car. The lengths people go to for expressing their hate.

Just to be clear, North America will NOT get the Modded Rift Portal. Their packaging and showcases have all used the SWAP-Portal. This is solely an Aus/NZ issue, with Europe's situation being unknown.

Yeah, that didn't fix how ugly it looks. This so called "portal" doesn't even fit Imaginators. I really hope that won't come in the starter pack if they don't make a new portal, because I can't use my TT one because I'm going to a new console.

Potential bad news for Aus/NZ. (Maybe Europe as well?)

The new Modded Rift Portal from the previously shown packaging pics (although the modification was almost impossible to notice in those, due to the angle) from Aus/NZ stores has been shown in an Imaginators video (3:42) by an Australian youtuber.

So, if you don't like that Portal, your regional Starter Pack may be a disappointment in that regard.
