Unfortunately it appears that the previously announced The Legend of Spyro 3D movie has been cancelled.

Aura24 recently got in contact with one of the writers and got this response:

Quote: Daniel Altiere
So sorry for the let down but we're as disappointed as you are. I'm afraid we're just the writers -- no more than hired hands. We didn't even know the project was cancelled until months after they pulled the plug.

Did you consider writing the gaming company? They're the ones who made the decision to go in a different direction. And if we knew what that direction was we'd share it with you. Again sorry for the disappointment. Wish we had more encouraging news for you.

With no news since May 2008, it was only to be expected. I've readded the full synopsis of the proposed movie back to the The Legend of Spyro 3D page in case you are interested in what might have been.

It may sound odd but i'm relieved it's been cancelled. It may have only made Spyro go downhill (to me he went downhill since Enter The Dragonfly)

I knew from the start that this would never be created. It's a relief though, written by straight-to-DVD writers? It was going to be an obvious failure.

The animation proably would've looked exactly like the style of the Garfield movies. Even if it was made, the movie would look better if it was developed by the same studios who made the mini cartoons based off The Eternal Night.

Your opinion.

Oh well, there might be better franchise for us to check out. Maybe more organized developers that can produce better graphics and a better storyline will make the movie next time.

The "different direction" thing just hit me. They canceled a movie that showed promise to do something else? It's either going to be great or blow up in their face. For the sake of the Spyro franchise, I hope it's great. If it's a failure, why would the current franchise owner want to keep trying? And who would want to buy a failing franchise?

I feel I should start looking for a franchise to take Spyro's place...

Aside from the "Promising" part about the movie, I agree. It's sad that such a cute little guy from the 90's turned out like this. Spyro's on his last leg here, if something doesn't give with this "new direction", then all is lost.
I'm also slightly weary of that. Hasn't Spyro been changed enough for one franchise? How many others can you think of that have changed universes 3 times (Granted that new direction means no more tLoS)?

Spyro has only been changed once. The first three games and then all the non-LoS games were of the same universe and style (but Shadow Legacy is all on its own I think). Spyro was just sold to different companies. However, I think the LoS universe shows much more promise than the original one (could elaborate, but don't feel like it).

Ok tell me this the producers are making a Garfield cartoon movie and which well probably suck. And they are making a Crash Banicoot movie( saw the trailer on Youtube) which would suck even more and the game industry said they wouldn't make spyro instead they are making CB.

"I think no it is defiantly that the producers are going lose more money going with Crash then Spyro". But or well i just hope they are coming with more Spyro games.

well, that may explain why they didn't tell us it wasn't coming out- so they wouldn't have to give us news about the new game. and maybe the 'unconfirmed' credits music was actually supposed to be in the new game.

HA! You believed that stupid kid who made up that lie about leaked credits music? If people actually believed that, then this forum is WAY too gullible, which why I ALWAYS question how young people must be on this forum. I'm sure we have children in single digits on this forum. That "leaked credits song" has absolutely no evidence of having any relationship to the Spyro franchise. Mods could have corrected that topic, but DarkSpyro DOES NOT HAVE MODS ON THIS BOARD, BUT DESPERATELY NEEDS THEM!
